A British study found that men spent about $40 a week on impulse purchases and women spent $30. For a couple, that’s $3,640 a year that you weren’t planning on spending. If you cut those unplanned purchases in half and invest the savings at 7% annually, it would amount to almost $75,000 after 20 years.

Tip: Reduce impulse buys by leaving credit cards at home and carrying with you a set amount of cash that you can blow.
